In the news this week, security in the Quebec Parliament turned away a group of Sikhs for wearing their kirpans. As we all know, the kirpan is a knife worn by Sikhs – for some unknown religious purpose. Although I am French, but not from the belle province, I am no fan of the separatists who while sucking the life blood out of Canada are doing everything in their power to destroy the country. But in this one case the Quebecers got it right – what in hell has wearing a knife (designed to kill, I might add – see photo above) got to do with religion. But, back to my point. In the end it’s all about “reasonable accommodations,” and this rather meaningless Canadianism goes both ways. Because of their outdated and weird “religious” beliefs, the Sikhs will not budge. And Quebec, arguably the most bigoted society in North America, will stand its ground. Thanks to the separatist bigots who are calling all the shots in Quebec, the province is caught between a rock and a kirpan. Although they like to paint themselves as an open society – the reality is the complete opposite – the late Montreal writer Mordecai Richler’s portrait of Quebec as a closed racists society is very much on the mark. So, how will Quebec “accommodate” the religion of its ever growing Sikh population, pretend to be an open society, screw their minority groups especially the Jews, and complain about the lack of rights in Canada – all at the same time? Especially difficult, in my opinion, since the Parliament of Canada and the Supreme Court have already accommodated the Sikhs. What next, accommodate the Taliban who wish to wear explosive vests in order to celebrate their religion. MPC
