Recent news out of the Belle Province suggest a change is in the wind – via a new coalition of conservative federalists and sovereigntists.  Although Quebec receives more federal transfers than all of the other provinces combined, its economy is in a mess.  The movement’s main goal is set aside the long-standing debate over Quebec’s political future in order to concentrate exclusively on finding solutions to the big problems facing the province, namely: a hulking $160-billion debt, inadequacies in health care and education services and the lack of sustainable economic wealth.

“We need to break the status quo in Quebec” Mr. Legault said in an interview last week, echoing the message of his political mentor, former premier Lucien Bouchard.
