Lots of noise out of the Bonne Province this week when Maclean’s magazine labelled its political system as the most corrupt in Canada. Quelle surprise. Well not really, if you follow politics or have ever lived in Quebec, you know what I mean. The article by Martin Patriquin is a multi-page spread that explores the long long list of past and present scandals in the province. He goes on to provide a good account on why the roots of corruption run deep in Quebec. Of course the Bloc Quebecois Leader, Gilles Duceppe, was quick to spin the dialogue against the rest of Canada, “one more example of English media slandering the province.” According to Patriquin the rabble of separatists has missed the point, I’m not targeting Quebecers, and I’m talking about the political machine.” It does not matter, most of the complainers will not even read the article – at any rate – the truth hurts.
